varioShore TPU 85A combines the flexibility of TPU 85A with colorFabb’s active foaming technology, creating a soft, lightweight and highly cushioned filament for functional 3D printing. The material is designed for applications where comfort, compression and flexibility matter, such as insoles, protective padding, soft-touch grips, wearable parts, ergonomic components and cushioning elements.

By adjusting print temperature, flow and print speed, users can influence the final feel of the printed part. Lower-temperature settings can produce firmer, more controlled TPU parts, while higher-temperature foaming settings create a lighter structure with increased softness, compression and a cushioned touch. This makes varioShore TPU 85A especially useful for parts that need to absorb pressure, feel comfortable against the body or provide a soft functional surface.

Compared to standard TPU, varioShore TPU 85A offers a more comfort-oriented printing experience: softer, lighter and more compressible, while still retaining the elastic behavior expected from flexible TPU filaments. For best results, start from standard TPU settings and fine-tune temperature, flow and cooling depending on the amount of foaming and softness required. Existing varioShore TPU advice recommends low cooling for maximum foaming and more cooling for better overhang performance.

Cooling fan

Use the least amount of cooling when maximum foaming is required. For better overhang performance use 50-100% cooling.

We advise our community to use standard TPU settings as a base setting for developing your own pre-sets.

Make sure the distance between nozzle and platform is not to small, especially if the material is being foamed while printing, the pressure will need to be released from the hot-end to prevent clogging and feeder issues.
